GPT Image 2 holds first at 9.4, and this week I want to talk about the file that leaves the generator, because the rules around it changed this summer and plenty of freelancers still work as if they had not.
The transparency obligations in Article 50 of the EU AI Act have applied since 2 August 2026. Providers of generative systems must mark AI images in a machine-readable, detectable way, and anyone publishing a deepfake must disclose it. The European Commission's own summary covers audio, video, text and images alike.
For a buyer, that turns provenance into a working feature. If you deliver images to a client with European customers, the metadata inside the file is part of the deliverable, and a workflow that strips it on export creates a problem the client inherits.
So my workflow changed in two small ways. I archive the original download from every generator, untouched, next to the edited version. And I check that my export settings keep content credentials and metadata intact. Most editing apps offer that as a single checkbox.
Adobe Firefly Image 4 at 8.2 deserves more credit on this point than its overall score suggests. It was built for commercial use from the start, and it attaches Content Credentials, which is the easiest story to tell a legal team. GPT Image 2 stays first on prompt accuracy of 9.8 and text rendering of 9.6, and Nano Banana Pro at 9.2 keeps text rendering at 9.5 for edits inside an existing picture.
Midjourney V8.1 at 9.3 remains the artistic leader at 9.9. Flux 2 Pro at 9.2 holds photorealism at 9.9 with value at 9.5.
My rule for anyone selling images: when a picture shows a real looking person in a real looking situation, label it plainly in the caption. It costs one line and it keeps the work publishable anywhere.
The ranking carries forward unchanged.
