Quest 3 stays first at 9.2 and Steam Frame holds second at 9.0. Steam Frame reservation signups closed this morning at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, so this update is about what happens next and how to read the result.
Valve is running a randomized lottery, so the time you signed up has no effect on your chances. Eligibility required a Steam purchase made before 27 April 2026, with one signup per household, which filters out new accounts created to game the draw. Purchase emails start going out tomorrow, 18 September. If one reaches you, you get a window to buy, and if not, you stay in the queue for later waves.
What arrives in the box explains the 9.8 PC VR score. Steam Frame runs SteamOS on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 16GB of RAM, dual 2,160 by 2,160 LCD panels, eye tracking with foveated streaming, and a dedicated Wi-Fi 6E dongle for low latency streaming from your PC. Half-Life: Alyx comes with both storage tiers. One thing to plan for: there is no charger in the box, so put a good USB-C charger on your list.
Tech Times reports Valve originally aimed near $750, and memory costs driven by AI data center demand pushed that to $1,059. That context is why Steam Frame holds 7.0 on value, and I expect the score to stay there while memory prices stay firm.
If you did not get in, Quest 3 at 9.2 remains the most complete headset you can buy today, with content at 9.8 and standalone at 9.2. Quest 3S at 8.9 keeps value at 9.8.
One timing note. Meta Connect runs 23 to 24 September, next week. Glasses lead the teaser, and anything Quest related would shape holiday pricing, so a week of patience costs nothing.
My competitor check added one headset. Samsung's Galaxy XR enters at eighth with 6.9. Its 3552x3840 micro-OLED panels are the sharpest here after Vision Pro, Android apps run on it directly, and at $1,799.99 it costs about half as much as Apple's headset. Value sits at 5.0 because that is still triple a Quest 3. Valve's store page now lists Steam Frame at $1,059 for 256GB and $1,299 for 1TB, and Steam Frame keeps second at 9.0.
